Located inside Hotel Eurolanka along Marine Drive, Coffee Colombo is not your average coffee shop. What started as a cozy café quickly transformed into a sought-after destination for authentic Jaffna flavors. Under the care of Nivetha and her team, this spot blends Northern Sri Lankan culinary traditions with the relaxed vibe of a Colombo beachside café.

From spicy crab curries to fried prawns and rich cuttlefish dishes, every plate carries the taste of home-style Jaffna cooking—prepared fresh with ingredients sourced directly from the north. While its name says “coffee,” the food is what keeps regulars coming back for more.

Enjoy Jaffna right here in Colombo!
I thoroughly enjoyed my புட்டு (pittu) and நண்டு (crab) curry and the Jaffna Neli Crush juice. The food was out of this world! Real Jaffna taste and aroma.

What impressed me most wasn't just the food, but the people behind the experience.

The staff worked with energy and purpose, ensuring guests were served without delay.

Swetha was gracious enough to check on us and make sure everything was to our satisfaction.

I was also impressed by a young member of the team who seemed to naturally take on the role of welcoming guests. She greeted customers as they arrived, helped them find comfortable seating, and created a warm, inviting atmosphere. That level of hospitality is rare and deserves recognition.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Coffee Colombo! I tried the Jaffna Crab Curry with Pittu Kottu, Jaffna Mutton Roll, and a fresh Passion Fruit Mojito and everything was absolutely delicious.

The Jaffna Crab Curry with Pittu Kottu was the highlight for me. The crab was fresh, generously filled with meat, and the curry had such an authentic Jaffna taste. One portion was more than enough for one person and was incredibly satisfying. The Jaffna Mutton Roll was also really tasty, and the Passion Fruit Mojito was fresh and refreshing.

What I loved most was the authentic Jaffna vibe of the food and the warm, friendly service. The place was quite crowded, which clearly shows how much demand and love there is for their food.

Definitely a place I would recommend to anyone looking for authentic Jaffna flavours and a great dining experience!

One of my favorite places in Colombo for authentic Jaffna food! This was my fourth visit, and as always, the food was delicious and the service was good.

It was a busy Saturday, and the place was packed. We were warmly welcomed by a lovely staff member who asked us to wait for a while until a table became available. That small gesture and the way we were treated really stood out.

Another thing I really appreciate is that they have maintained reasonable and affordable prices over the past couple of years, which is becoming quite rare these days.

However, during this visit, I noticed that the restaurant was a little noisier than usual. It seemed that someone from the management/ownership team was present, and unfortunately, one of the young management staff members was speaking loudly and reprimanding employees in front of customers. We also noticed some loud conversations around the management counter, which slightly affected the overall dining atmosphere.

Apart from that, the food, pricing and hospitality remain excellent. I’ll definitely visit again and hope the management can take a little more care with the atmosphere and staff communication when customers are around.

Very Disappointing Experience – Poor Food Quality and Serious Concerns

We visited Coffee Colombo after seeing so much social media hype and influencer promotion claiming it was one of the best places for authentic Jaffna-style crab curry, pittu, and traditional cuisine. Unfortunately, our experience was completely the opposite.

My husband, our friends from London and Switzerland, and I (a group of seven) came for lunch expecting a great Jaffna food experience. We ordered Jaffna crab curry with pittu, Jaffna prawn curry, mutton kottu, and Jaffna egg omelette.

The so-called Jaffna crab curry was extremely disappointing. The crab was tiny with almost no meat, the curry was watery, tasteless, and nowhere close to authentic Jaffna crab curry. The prawn curry also lacked flavour, and the mutton kottu was only average. The food quality did not match the prices or the reputation created online.

The service and atmosphere were also disappointing. The restaurant was very loud, and the staff lacked professionalism. Unfortunately, the owner, who was seated near us, appeared more focused on her phone than welcoming or engaging with guests. Good hospitality requires attention and care, which we did not experience.

The most serious issue was that after leaving the restaurant, three of us (myself, my husband, and our friend’s husband) became very ill with vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, and stomach problems. We had to visit hospital, where we were treated for food poisoning. We were sick for nearly three days, which affected our holiday.

During our three weeks travelling around Sri Lanka, we ate at many local and high-end restaurants without any problems. This was the only meal that caused such a serious reaction.

Afterwards, I checked Google and TripAdvisor reviews and was shocked to see many other customers sharing similar experiences. Another concern is that the management does not appear to respond to customer reviews, including serious complaints, which raises questions about how customer feedback and concerns are being handled.

This is my personal experience after travelling and dining in many countries. I rarely write negative reviews, but this was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I have had.

I strongly hope the management improves their food quality, hygiene standards, and customer service. Please do not use the name “Jaffna-style” unless the food truly represents the authentic taste and quality that Jaffna cuisine is known for.

The food is average in taste. Nothing fancy about it. But the Pittu tastes better. Again we ordered mutton and the mutton portion is not worth it at all. Customer service needs to be improved 100%. No one cares about the table's needs. We had to call every time we needed something. Seating is fine. Street parking is available but difficult to find.
